The mission of
the Freedom Guards Living History Company is to provide an entertaining and
interesting means of learning about our country's past. Living history
presentations are 'real' in the sense that they are interactive, bringing the
past to 'life', and typically conveying much more in the area of human interest
stories. History, after all, is about 'real' people just like us. As such, the
programs offered can be tailored to meet the requirements of most any program or
event.
Freedom Guards
is a not-for-profit company and all proceeds, beyond actual operating expenses,
are used for the purpose of education and historical preservation. |
1861
The
American Civil War
1865
Learn
more about our country's most critical and tragic conflict, and of the lives of
those who were a part of the greatest struggle ever waged on American soil.
During the four years of this war, more than 623,000 lives were lost, nearly as many as
in all other American wars combined.
From the soldiers who fought, to
the civilians who prayed for an end to the nightmare, all experienced an ordeal
that would never be forgotten.
Listen as authentic historical
interpreters, dressed in accurate period attire, tell of those desperate,
terrible days between 1861 and 1865 when the fate of the Union was determined and
a new nation emerged from the suffering and sacrifice.

Historically Accurate Portrayals represent such historic roles as those of
the extraordinary men and women of the
United States Sanitary Commission,
forerunner of the American Red Cross, in its critical humanitarian mission to
provide relief to the soldiers of the Army of the Potomac fighting to
save the Union.
In
The Other Side of War,
the true nature of the ordeal and hardships of the common soldier are brought to
light, as are the critical efforts of those who sought to ease their suffering.
Gettysburg - 1863
presents an intimate look at the great and terrible battle that may have been
the 'High Water Mark' of the Southern Confederacy. We examine the desperate
fighting and its aftermath as viewed by the soldiers and civilians who
experienced it. With
Pennsylvania in the Civil War,
we explore various aspects of the role this state played in our nation's
greatest struggle. These and other portrayals are intended to offer a better
understanding of the period and the lives of those who have gone before us.
